Should You Take this Class?
If you are an underclassmen reading this then yes you should take this class! I can't believe how many things I didn't understand prior to this class. It may seem like a ton of work but believe me when I say that Mr. Landry does his best making it seem not so bad. He also presents the information in a way that is understandable. SO DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED BY THE SUMMER ASSIGNMENTS! It was literally not that hard. It may seem like a lot but its easy work. The best advice I can give to you is ask questions. I learned so much from just the conversations we had in class so ask questions.
That's as much as I can tell you because you should experience this class yourself! Good Luck next year students!

Last AP Bio Class

What have I learned in AP Bio and how was this class beneficial?

I learned so much in this class that it would be too much for me to type. But one of the most significant things I've learned in this class would be the ability to problem solve. This class helped me develop the skill to take information provided and figure out a solution even when you don't have all the pieces. This applies to every aspect we learned about. This type of fundamental skill is important to have throughout life.

At Sparta High School, just like every other high school, we have a homecoming. But what it is different than any other high school is the week that is built up to the actual game and dance. The week is full of games, clean rivalry and school spirit! On the Friday of the homecoming game the students do not go to class. Instead, we have mock rock! What mock rock is, is it's each grade is competing against the other grades for a prize which in this case is the red apple. Each grade decides on a theme which this years was decades. Also each grade decides a color they would like to be. Every year seniors are black; its a tradition. So through out the day we are playing games against each other such as the caterpillar race, limbo, Euchar , and even a pie eating contest. But before all the games happen there are speeches to be given. Oh yes, speeches! By the people who are nominated on homecoming court! I just so happen to have been lucky enough to be on it. The speeches were so nerve racking because I am terrified of speaking in front of crowds. It turned out alright though. After the speeches are given the students return to a class room that they were assigned to and vote for homecoming king and queen. Then the games begin. The games last about 2 hours but they are so much fun! After they happen though everyone eats lunch and gets ready for "mock rock" which is a dance that is put on by each grade that goes with their theme. That happens right after the judges judge the floats each grade has made! Yes there are floats. It is such a small town cliché but that is exactly why I love it so much. Then after mock rock is done there is a parade down to our middle school to the football field where the students attend a pep assembly. After that is over we are free to go. But since I was on court I had to get ready for the parade through town! After the parade it is about time for the game and so the football begins! During half time they announce kind and queen and then the band puts on an amazing performance. After half time is over the football game continues! We won :) Then the following Saturday is the dance. I can honestly say that this past year was the best dance I have ever been to. I enjoyed every moment of it. I wouldn't wish to be anywhere.

Human Ecological Stupidity

Deforestation

Deforestation is the clearing of trees and other plant organisms in mass amounts. The damage that this can cause is huge! Not only are we putting certain organisms up for extinction but we are also destroying homes of other organisms that currently reside in those forests which coud possibly put those animals/insets up for extinction. The reason this is so important is because of the cycles that are naturally made here on earth. If we humans are constantly eliminating other organisms then there could be a snowball effect and we could eventually eliminate ourselves. There are more efficent ways to get the materials we need.
1.) Start Recycling
2.) Instead of using wood for wood stoves find a more efficent way of energy
3.) For every tree cut down there should be at least two planted (of the same kind)
4.) Keep the soil watered to prevent desert habitats to form

The Picture below demonstrates an area after a logging company has come through. An area where life once lived is now so bare.
